Adopt-A-House is a nonprofit affiliate of the Housing Development Fund. It provides technical assistance to developers of low and moderate income housing, and administers a predevelopment loan fund for affordable housing development. Adopt-A-House, Inc. is a provider of one-to-one home ownership counseling and downpayment assistance loans to low and moderate income home buyers.

Connecticut Department of Housing (DOH) – a state agency responsible for promoting affordable housing opportunities. CHIF administers the Energy Conservation Loan Program for DOH (click here for Energy Conservation Loan Program). The DOH website offers information about other affordable housing programs including the Affordable Housing Program, housing for elderly, congregate housing, hazardous material abatement, etc.

Connecticut Fair Housing Center, Inc. – The Fair Housing Center is a statewide, non-profit organization providing fair housing services including education and training about housing discrimination; investigation, testing, direct advocacy and representation; attorney referrrals for victims of housing discrimination; and, research and technical assistance on fair housing related issues.

Connecticut Housing Finance Authority (CHFA) – This agency was created to help alleviate the shortage of housing for low- and moderate-income families and persons in Connecticut. CHFA offers programs for homebuyers, as well as Multifamily, elderly and tax credit programs.

Corporation for Independent Living (CIL) – A nonprofit housing development corporation that finances and builds affordable, safe and barrier-free housing for individuals so that they may live as independently as possible in single-family settings.

Fannie Mae Foundation – A private, nonprofit organization devoted to affordable housing and the revitalization of communities. Provides free, step-by-step home-buying information to people to help them achieve the American dream of homeownership. In 2002, the Foundation awarded $38 million in grants to more than 1,000 nonprofit organizations across the country. In addition, the Foundation has provided nearly $27 million in loans through the Community and Neighborhood Development Fund (CNDF).

Home Energy Solutions Program – This comprehensive program offers a full range of energy efficiency measures to address inefficient lighting, water heating, inefficient heating equipment, refrigeration and insufficient insulation. National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC) – NLIHC is dedicated solely to ending America’s affordable housing crisis. NLIHC’s policy advocacy work is focused on improving the general public’s knowledge and support of low income housing issues and policy, making low income housing a priority on the federal political agenda, decreasing the loss of federally assisted housing, increasing federal investment in low income housing and engaging low income people in self advocacy on housing issues.

Partnership for Strong Communities – a collaborative advocacy initiative dedicated to ending homelessness and investing in affordable housing; works to promote state investment that helps revitalize housing, closes the gap between household income and housing costs, and provides the support services necessary for those with chronic illnesses to live independently in decent housing. Weatherization Program (WRAP) – WRAP is a partnership among Eversource (formerly CL&P and Yankee Gas), Connecticut Natural Gas, the state of Connecticut and local Community Action Agencies to help low-income customers (renters or owners) with conservation services that safely lower electric use, reduce a homes heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer, conserve hot water and provide energy-efficient lighting.
